Building Teamwork While Building a House
On a lovely June day, the MANP staff left the office wearing our best construction clothes and headed to Brunswick to volunteer on a Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers build.
We started the day with a quick overview of history of Habitat and their model. Did you know that the families who move into the completed houses help with construction? Or that the families pay taxes on the assessed price of the house, which helps the tax base of the town? Neither did we! It was an enlightening overview of an important member organization.
After learning about the organization (while consuming their coffee and donuts), they put us right to work stabilizing the deck and installing the downstairs doors and windows.
After lunch, we helped prep the upstairs for window installation and put up strapping on the downstairs ceiling. There were hammers, electric drills, levels, ladders, scaffolding – lots of tools we don’t use on a daily basis here at MANP. While it wasn’t work we normally do, as a team we were productive!
If you’re eager for a chance to get out of the office, there many other great organizations looking for help; you could even jump into a Habitat build, picking up where we left off.
