Get to Know Greg Csikos

Gregory Csikos, CPA, CFE,  is an Assurance Manager at Purdy Powers & Company, a Friend of MANP. He is one of our newest volunteer presenters, offering an upcoming webinar: The Auditors Are Coming! How to Get Ready For Their Annual Visit.  Greg is an auditor and business advisor with over seven years of experience helping nonprofit entities, commercial businesses, and governments with their accounting and compliance needs. His expertise also extends to the design of internal controls, the prevention and detection of fraud, and forensic accounting.

To help you get to know Greg, we asked him the following questions.

What’s something we might not know about you even after we spend a day with you?
You might not realize I’m from New Jersey – I lost the accent during the eight years I spent living in Canada. People are more likely to think I’m from Ontario than New Jersey.

What do you do for fun?
I really enjoy taking long walks exploring the city (I’m a city mouse at heart), and finding quiet time to read a good book.

Coffee or tea?
Tea, although I like coffee ice cream and the aroma of coffee shops.

Favorite part about living in Maine?
I moved to Maine in 2010 after falling in love with Portland. The old brick buildings, art scene, and ocean views spoke to me.

What book is on your nightstand/coffee table?
The (Mis)Behaviour of Markets: A Fractal View of Risk, Ruin and Reward by Benoit Mandelbrot. It’s been sitting there for a while – I need to finish it!

A financial management publication you recommend?
The CPA Letter Daily from the AICPA. It’s a free e-newsletter published each weekday and covers news in business, finance, and accounting. People can sign up for it here.

What makes you laugh?
As an auditor I drive around a lot. I get my laughs by listening to the comedy stations on satellite radio. It helps to pass what otherwise can be a boring time.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Charleston, South Carolina. It’s like a Southern version of Portland, Maine.

What is your favorite childhood memory?
Driving around New York City with my grandparents visiting distant relatives. On my mother’s side I’m the descendent of Scottish and Polish immigrants who spread out across the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens. Nowadays everyone has moved out to the suburbs.
