Host Organizations for AmeriCorps Sought
Could you use an AmeriCorps Member to help you recruit volunteers, deliver your programs, or expand your capacity? The Community Resource Corps could fill this need within your organization!
The Community Resource Corps has been in existence since 2003, serving Maine nonprofits, schools, and municipal agencies through strengthening volunteer management and recruitment systems.
Following the Essential Practices of Volunteer Management as a guide and receiving core volunteer management training, AmeriCorps members are able to focus on key needs of the agency throughout the term in order to strengthen areas of volunteer management. Members have streamlined volunteer recruitment, screening, and placement procedures, created training plans for volunteers, and developed sustainable solutions to volunteer management after the presence of the AmeriCorps program.
The Community Resource Corps has two options regarding partnering with AmeriCorps this year. 1) To host a full-time member with stipend between October 7, 2011 and September 6, 2012 to focus on core Volunteer Management Essential Practices. This option requires a $10,500 cash match from the host organization which goes toward the member’s stipend, education award, health insurance, and training. 2) To host an Education Award Only member with a variable start/end date between September 15, 2011 and September 14, 2012 to provide volunteer service within a specified community need. This option does not require any financial commitment, but will provide the member with an education award at the end of their service. This may be someone already volunteering at the organization. Both partnership opportunities will be filled on a first come first serve basis.
Trekkers-Tenants Harbor, shares a reflection on the impact of their AmeriCorps Member this past year with the CRC: “I think one of the most critical (tangible) impacts Lis had on the organization was helping us overhaul our volunteer recruitment and management practice. Her enthusiasm and support of our first-ever “Be One Bring One” volunteer recruitment event allowed the organization to nearly double the number of volunteers needed for our 7th grade program, enabling the organization to reach an expansion milestone by offering two 7th grade expeditions this year.” AmeriCorps Members have a unique ability to enter into an organization with passion and motivation for service which permeates the projects that they are given at a Host Organization. AmeriCorps members change the lives of volunteers and clients alike while partnering with key staff at the organization to impact key capacity building areas of the agency.
